Support for the establishment of the National Information Platform for Nutrition in Burkina Faso

AEDES supports the Secretariat of National Council for Dialogue on Nutrition (CNDN) in Burkina Faso for the establishment of the National Information Platform for Nutrition: coordination and communication component.

This technical assistance is financed through the BENEF2013 Framework Contract with the European Commission.

The technical assistance aims at strengthening national capacities to collect, consolidate, analyse and interpret existing nutrition or nutrition-related information to facilitate their use in political, investment and operational decision-making in order to effectively and sustainably reduce malnutrition in all its forms, but particularly chronic malnutrition in children under 5 years old.

The aim is to facilitate the creation of a National Information Platform for Nutrition (NIPN) which will be able to make use of existing information and which provides mechanisms for the collection, consolidation, analysis and continuous interpretation of data as well as the production of various documents (technical documents, training tools, advocacy tools ...) that will facilitate the presentation of results to stakeholders.
The initiative "National Information Platforms for Nutrition (NIPN)", promoted by the European Commission, aims to help countries strengthen their information systems and data analysis capabilities for nutrition, to support the strategic decisions they face to prevent malnutrition and its consequences. The aim is to develop a multisectoral common vision; to direct investments towards the most profitable actions to improve the nutritional status of the populations; to prioritise and synchronise interventions over time (the sequence of actions over several years), and in space (choose the relevant intervention package according to the agro-climatic and cultural context of each region of the country) according to their cost-effectiveness while taking into account available resources and keeping a long-term vision. The information produced should help monitor progress and quality assurance of interventions.
